National market surveillance authorities enforce the obligations laid down by the GPSR. They check that products on the EU market are safe and that businesses comply with their obligations. If a dangerous product is detected, Member States inform each other via the EU Safety Gate Rapid Alert System, which is managed by the European Commission; the public is informed via the Safety Gate Portal. (3) Member States may also fine businesses that breach their obligations under the GPSR.
